Sr. Systems Engineer Job Description

Job Summary

The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for shaping and implementing enterprise-grade infrastructure strategies tailored to client needs. This role requires a deep understanding of hybrid environments, cloud services, virtualization platforms, and storage systems. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and interface directly with clients to deliver scalable and secure solutions.

Responsibilities

As a member of our professional services team, the responsibilities of the Senior Systems Engineer include, but are not limited to, the following

  • Architect and Deploy Microsoft Cloud Solutions: Design and manage cloud environments utilizing Microsoft 365 (M365) services such as Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and OneDrive for Business.
  • Active Directory (AD) & Azure AD Management: Administer and synchronize on-premises and Azure-based identity systems, including GPO, RBAC, and hybrid identity setups.
  • Windows Server Administration: Deploy and maintain enterprise Windows Server environments, including core services like DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
  • Device Management with Intune: Configure and enforce mobile device and endpoint compliance policies using Microsoft Intune for both remote and on-site users.
  • Conditional Access and Security: Implement Conditional Access strategies and enforce enterprise-grade security controls such as Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and risk-based access.
  • Hybrid Cloud Integration: Develop hybrid solutions using tools such as Azure AD Connect, Azure Site Recovery, and Microsoft Endpoint Manager to ensure smooth interoperation between cloud and on-prem systems.
  • Monitoring and Threat Detection: Monitor infrastructure using Microsoft Sentinel, Azure Monitor, and other SIEM solutions to proactively identify and remediate issues.
  • Disaster Recovery and Backup: Design and operate resilient backup and disaster recovery mechanisms using Azure Backup, Windows Server Backup, and third-party solutions.
  • Collaboration and Technical Documentation: Partner with internal teams and clients to document systems architecture, deployment strategies, and standard operating procedures.

Additional Expertise

  • Virtualization Technologies: Advanced experience in deploying and managing VMware vSphere environments, including virtual machine provisioning, resource optimization, and high availability configurations.
  • Enterprise Storage Platforms:
    • HPE Alletra: Configuration and management of next-gen storage for hybrid cloud operations.
      NetApp: Setup and administration of ONTAP-based NAS/SAN infrastructure, data replication, and snapshots.
    • Nutanix: Experience with Nutanix HCI, including Prism management, AHV, and hybrid storage management.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Microsoft Cloud Proficiency: Proven experience across Microsoft 365, including collaboration and security tools.
  • Active Directory & Azure AD: Expertise in hybrid identity environments and role-based access models.
  • Server OS Management: Strong background with Windows Server (2012 through 2019+).
    Endpoint & Policy Enforcement: Hands-on with Microsoft Intune and Group Policies.
  • Security Posture Management: Implementation of Conditional Access, Zero Trust, and security auditing tools.
  • Storage and Virtualization: In-depth experience with VMware, HPE Alletra, NetApp, Nutanix, and other SAN/NAS platforms.
  • Automation: Proficient in scripting with PowerShell and Azure CLI for deployment and administrative automation.
  • Certifications (Preferred/Required):
    • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
    • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
    • Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert
    • Microsoft Certified: Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals
    • VMware or storage-related certifications (preferred)
